It started after watching Paranormal Activity with housemates, Kristen and Mike.
“Hey, we should watch a bunch of our favorite scary movies together for Halloween!”
This Friday, the Shugashack will host our first movie marathon. Starting at 6 pm until who knows when, we’re inviting folks to come over and watch some of the best scary movies in history.
Did I mention we live next to a cemetery?
People are encouraged to bring a movie or two to possibly screen for everybody. We’ll take a vote to see which ones we’ll watch, but the lineup that we have so far are:
The very first movie, at 6 pm, will be:
Drag Me to Hell (2009) – Dir. Sam Raimi – 99 min. – U.S.
This came as a suggestion from my sister and John, two movie buffs that I trust very much. They said it’s a good cross between funny/ campy and scary. So we figured it’d be a good movie to start with. Just by talking to folks, it seems to be a good pick. Can’t wait.
Next up is an all-time classic and one of my childhood favorites:
The Exorcist (1973) – Dir. William Friedkin – 122 min. – U.S.
I haven’t watched this for a long time, but there are several scenes burned into my memory. Religion is always a scary thing.
Another class movie:
Poltergeist (1982) – Dir. Tobe Hooper – 114 min. – U.S.
More childhood memories burned into the brain. TV kills…in so many ways.
The rest of the lineup is up for discussion. But I know Carlo is going to bring;
28 Days Later (2002) – Dir. Danny Boyle – 113 min. – U.K.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about this. One of the best zombie movies of all-time. Should be fun (Left 4 Dead-kind of fun?).
I’m going to campaign for:
Ringu (1998) – Dir. Hideo Nakata – 96 min. – Japan
Japan produces some of the best horror movies in the world. The western world does a crappy job trying to recreate them. When your country is isolated from the rest of the world for centuries and is the only country to have not one, but two nuclear bombs dropped on you during war, yeah some fucked up movies would probably be expected. This is definitely one of the best.
I’m pretty excited about Friday. Having good folks come over and collectively shit bricks watching some of the best horror movies ever. What more can I ask for? Hope you’ll be there!
